Stratford-Trumbull-Monroe Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)

The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), a specialized component of Citizen Corps, is a national network of volunteers, organized locally to improve the health and safety of their communities. The MRC helps to strengthen public health, improve emergency response capabilities, and build community resiliency.

The Stratford-Trumbull-Monroe MRC strives to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies throughout our three towns. Our goals are to recruit and organize both medical and non-medical volunteers and public health professionals, train and prepare such volunteers in advance of an emergency in order to respond both effectively and efficiently, as well as utilize all the diverse volunteer resources in ways that best promote health in our communities.

The Stratford-Trumbull-Monroe MRC is operated by the Stratford Health Department. Our focus this year has been on preparing for local public health emergencies such as disease outbreaks and man-made disasters, as well as hosting public health screenings to help educate residents about their health status and provide those in need with links to care.

Although "medical" is in our name, membership is NOT limited to medical personnel. Current MRC members include practicing or retired physicians, nurses, public health professionals, pharmacists, emergency medical technicians, as well as individuals with clerical and organizational skills from various professions. Whatever skills you bring, chances are we could use them in our MRC unit!
