Mayor Miron Announces Installation Of Town’s Code Blue Emergency Phone System

Stratford, Conn. (March 23, 2006) – Eleven Code Blue emergency phones have been installed at key public locations in Stratford by the Mercury Group, a Stratford based company that provides installation services for building communications systems for end users, equipment manufacturers, electrical and general contractors.

Coordinated by the Town’s Department of Recreation, a total of eleven phones have been installed at Stratford’s Train Station, Short Beach, Long Beach, Longbrook Park and Booth Memorial Park. Four of the eleven phones are located at the Stratford Train station – two on the northbound platform and two on the southbound platform. Two of these phones are solar powered Code Blue 1-D phones. These phones are nine feet tall, freestanding, wireless pedestal units which provide high visibility throughout a full 360-degree area. The other two phones are CB4 phones. These are wall mounted emergency phones.

“The installation of the Code Blue phones will ensure rapid response by our police department, fire department or EMS to any type of emergency situation in these public areas,” said Mayor Miron. “This new technology will strengthen our public safety efforts in protecting both our citizens and the Town’s infrastructure.”

Short Beach has one Code Blue 1-D phone located on the playground and two CB4 phones – one at the concession stand and one in the picnic/restroom area. Long Beach has two InterAct phones, Longbrook Park has one CB4 at the wading pool and Booth Memorial Park has one CB4 mounted on the dining hall.

As this time, all four phones at the train station are operational. The remaining phones will be activated by the end of April.

“In an emergency, quick and effective communication becomes a life and death matter. In any public area, Code Blue’s emergency phones are highly visible, user friendly and give the public a greater sense of security,” said Gary Berlin, Vice President of Operations of The Mercury Group.
