Mayor James R. Miron Announces Summer Season on the Stratford Festival Theater Grounds
Stratford, Conn. (July 13, 2006) – Mayor James R. Miron today announced plans for Stratford’s 2006 Summer Theatre Festival. The Festival will be presented as a series of performances taking place on the grounds of the Stratford Festival Theatre.
The Festival will open with a gala on Friday night August 4th and conclude the third weekend of August. Performances will include a main production of With Honors, a collection of award winning plays by local playwrights, a one-weekend production of Taming of the Shrew and a performance of Shakespeare: An Infinite Variety by Theatre Artists Workshop. Additional Shakespearean performances are being scheduled.
“As Mayor of Stratford, one of my highest priorities is to continue our town’s legacy of hosting Shakespearean productions and I am proud that Stratford's theatre community is alive and well. Our local players and playwrights are working hard to bring us our first summer season on the Shakespeare Theater grounds,” said Mayor Miron. “I am especially grateful to J. Sibley Law and the playwrights from Stratford 's SquareWrights playwright center who will mount a full production called With Honors. Their collection of one-act plays represents a growing community of playwrights who see Stratford as their theatre home. All of the plays in this show were first presented here in Stratford but have gone on to productions and awards on stages around the country, from New York City to Alaska. I'm proud of our theatre community and look forward to a summer celebrating our theatre heritage.”
Tickets prices are $12 and $10 for children, students and seniors. Tickets will go on sale during the week of July 17 and will be sold online, by phone and in the Mayor’s office. For more information on Stratford’s 2006 Summer Theatre Festival, visit www.stratfordstage.org or call 203.260.3050.
