Mayor Miron Announces Results of the First Annual Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament

Stratford, Conn. (September 13, 2006) - Mayor James R. Miron announced today that the First Annual Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament held on August 21 at Mill River Country Club in Stratford surpassed its goal of raising $25,000.

Close to $80,000 (gross) was raised with $46,000 being donated to charity. Each recipient – the Disability Resource Center, the Evergreen Network, the Special Olympics and the South End Community Center - was presented with a check from Mayor Miron in the amount of $11,500.

“Thanks to the efforts of our outstanding all-volunteer committee, we have succeeded in changing the lives of our deserving neighbors,” said Mayor Miron. “I am proud of how this annual event will continue to bring together all members of our community – our neighbors, friends and town employees to work closely together for the greater good of our Town.”

The success of the sold-out golf tournament was made possible with support from an all-volunteer committee, led by Stratford residents Agnes Stegner and Tony Ross, and by key sponsorship support from the Get Hooked, LLC - Bridgeport Bluefish, Elizabeth Pfriem of Southport and Berchem, Moses & Devlin Attorneys-at-Law of Milford. In total, 78 sponsors and close to 100 donations were made in support of the tournament.

Winners of the First Annual Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament were: Gross: Ron Hojdich, Dick Miron, Dale Stegner and Scott Stegner. Net: Jim Caissy, Sid Gordon, John Angel and Mark Victor.

Silent Auction and Raffle items included autographed memorabilia from the North Carolina Hurricanes, the New York Giants, the New York Rangers, the New York Knicks, the New York Yankees, World Wrestling Entertainment and the New England Patriots.

The date for the Second Annual Mayor’s Charity Golf Tournament has been set for Monday, August 20 at Mill River Country Club. For more information, please contact Ann Miron, Event Director, at 203.380.9070.
