Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch and Straford Mayor James R. Miron Meet to Discuss Shared Interests Agreement on Pleasure Beach Reached
Brideport, Connecticut (February 11, 2008) – Mayor Bill Finch of Bridgeport and Mayor James R. Miron of Stratford met today to discuss many of the important issues shared by the neighboring municipalities. The two Mayors emerged from their meeting with the announcement that a consensus on the possible sale of Pleasure Beach and its Stratford component, Long Beach West, to the US Fish and Wildlife Service had been reached. "While we talked about various topics of mutual concern today, we were most productive in our discussion about future plans for Pleasure Beach and Long Beach West,” said Mayor Finch. “The ultimate result of a sale to the US government would be a well-maintained beach with public access for swimming, hiking, camping and fishing.” The three topics that dominated the mayors’ conversation included Remington Woods, Pleasure Beach/ Long Beach West, and Sikorsky Memorial Airport. The two Mayors have agreed to meet to discuss Remington Woods and the Airport in more detail at a later date. “I am confident the continued partnership between Bridgeport and Stratford will yield positive results for the residents of both communities,” said Mayor Miron. “I am pleased that Mayor Finch and I share the same vision for Long Beach West and Pleasure Beach, and I look forward to our continued conversation on the Sikorsky Memorial Airport.”
