PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, Miss Connecticut National Pre-Teen 2006 and Stratford resident Cathy Cann, age 13, has organized a performing arts show to benefit Haiti Lumiere de Demain (Haiti’s Light for Tomorrow) a non-profit organization that works to promote educational programs in rural communities of Haiti through training teachers, providing textbooks and awarding scholarships; and

WHEREAS, Over the past seven years, more than 2,500 children who would otherwise be lost to illiteracy are now going to school with the textbooks they so desperately need, teachers from nine schools in nine different communities have received training, and 20 students through a scholarship program will successfully complete secondary school; and

WHEREAS, Cathy Cann has been part of Haiti Lumiere de Demain’s (Haiti’s Light for Tomorrow) efforts since the age of eight and will be traveling to Haiti with a group of supporters and volunteers from October 8 – 15, 2006 to assist in buying and distributing textbooks to students and to award this year’s scholarship recipients; and

NOW, THEREFORE, I, James R. Miron, Mayor, do hereby proclaim September 22, 2006 as Haiti Lumiere de Demain (Haiti’s Light for Tomorrow) Day in the Town of Stratford and urge all residents to honor and support the work of this special organization.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Seal of the Town of Stratford this 22nd day of September, A.D. 2006.
