PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Stratford resident Becky Simon raised over $100 in donations by making and selling bookmarks to support the Mayor’s initiative to place Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) in all 40 Town buildings and schools; and
WHEREAS, according to the American Heart Association (AHA), the only definitive treatment for sudden cardiac arrest is defibrillation, an electrical pulse that restores normal heart rhythm; and
WHEREAS, to be effective, the treatment must be administered within the first few minutes of cardiac arrest, often well before emergency medical services can respond; and
WHEREAS, the AHA estimates that widespread deployment of AEDs in public buildings, schools, offices and factories could save 100,000 lives annually in the U.S. alone; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, James R. Miron, Mayor, do hereby proclaim Monday, April 9, 2007 as Becky Simon Day in the Town of Stratford and ask all members of our community to join me in thanking Becky for her support of this most important community initiative.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the Seal of the Town of Stratford this 9th day of April, A.D. 2007.
James R. Miron, Mayor
