PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, Firefighter Edward Yearwood joined the Stratford Fire Department on September 12, 1988, has over 19 years of service and is a certified Medical Response Technician; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Edward Yearwood, a lifelong Stratford resident, graduated from Stratford High School in 1978 and attended the University of New Haven and Morgan State University; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Edward Yearwood holds the 400meter record at the University of New Haven, held the second fastest 400meter time in the World in 1979, was named to the All American Team 12 times and tried out for the 1984 Olympics; and

WHEREAS, Firefighter Edward Yearwood is a co-founder of the “Blue Heat” Basketball Team which works to support numerous community based programs including the South End Community Center, the Stratford High School Basketball Team and the “SAFE Kids” program; and

NOW THEREFORE, I, James R. Miron, Mayor of the Town of Stratford, do hereby proclaim April 26, 2007 as Firefighter Edward Yearwood Day in the Town of Stratford.
