PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month was created by Congress on January 1, 1989, and is celebrated from September 15th through October 15th each year; and
WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month is a time to commemorate, recognize and celebrate the contributions of the members of our Hispanic community who continue to enrich our local communities, our state and our nation; and,
WHEREAS, Hispanic Heritage Month is proudly celebrated in the Town of Stratford due to the hard work and dedication of The Stratford Hispanic Heritage Committee; and
WHEREAS, The Stratford Hispanic Heritage Committee proudly shares their culture with community, and illustrates five centuries of vibrant traditions shaped by the blend of Hispanic ancestry and traditions; and
WHEREAS, The Stratford Hispanic Heritage Committee strives to promote understanding and harmony among all people through an array of events including The Stratford Library Art and Reading Family Day, The Festival of Tables at Stratford Town Hall, and other events throughout the year; and,
NOW THEREFORE, I, James R. Miron, Mayor of the Town of Stratford, Connecticut, recognize and honor the Stratford Hispanic Heritage Committee for their leadership in organizing events that celebrate the Hispanic history, culinary delights, cultural traditions and values, and hereby proclaim October 2007 as Hispanic Heritage Month in the Town of Stratford.
