BUSINESS NEWS The Department of Community/Economic Development welcomes you to our monthly update on economic activity in the Town of Stratford. - Commercial, industrial, retail and office building permits for the month of February totaled $1,403,000. Renovations of existing facilities and build-outs for new businesses locating in Stratford accounted for the majority of the permits.
- The bidding activity on the former Stratford Army Engine Plant had a “soft close” of the bidding process scheduled for March 4 by 3:00 PM. Increased activity in the auction process caused an extension in the process for at least an additional day. Three major bidders have dominated the bidding process. In addition to the bid amount, the successful bidder will also be responsible for the cost of the remediation of the contamination on the site.
- The Big Y World Class Market celebrated their Grand Opening at the new North Town Center on Hawley Lane, which was reported as the largest grand opening attendance of their 56 stores.
- The New Alliance Bank also of the North Town Center celebrated their official Grand Opening on March 4th. Several new tenant stores are currently being retrofitted for scheduled openings within the next two months.
- The Greater Fairfield County Consolidated Multiple Listing Service has reported that 28 single-family homes were sold in the month of February through the March 5th reporting date. The average selling price was $265,634 and on the market for a period 110 days. *
