Director of Health

Andrea Boissevain has served as Director of Health with the Stratford Health Department since 2010. She lead the department's accreditation effort where Stratford was only (and still is) the third local health department in CT to be awarded national accreditation by the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) in March 2016.  Relying on the strength and dedication of Stratford's staff, Stratford actively participates in the Greater Bridgeport Health Improvement Alliance (former known as the Primary Care Action Group). The Health Improvement Alliance (HIA) is a collaborative of our tow acute care hospitals, FQHCs, and area local health departments that have joined together to improve community health. By collecting and analyzing community health data, the collaborative has identified areas where improvements are needed: cardiac disease, diabetes, and obesity rates, mental health and substance abuse, and access to care are areas that rose to the top. Ms. Boissevain supports Stratford Health Department staff as they serve on all four work groups of the Community Health Improvement Plan. Ms. Boissevain recently stepped down as co-chair of CT DEMHS Region 1 Health Care Coalition, a coalition dedicated to promoting emergency preparedness, response and recovery for the health care continuum of hospitals, EMS, local health and behavioral health professionals. She did so in order to take on the lead for Region 1's effort to become a singular mass dispensing area. Referred to as the Cities Readiness Initiative (CRI), Ms. Boissevain is working with her counterparts and their Emergency Preparedness Coordinators to develop a regional approach to mass dispensing.

She has a BA from Vassar College (biology) and an M.P.H. from Yale University School of Public Health, where she serves as a lecturer with the Environmental Sciences Division.
