Medicare Initial Enrollment
You can enroll in to Medicare during the 7-month period that begins 3 months before the month you turn 65, includes the month you turn 65, and ends 3 months after the month you turn 65.  You have the option of enrolling in to Original Medicare with a Supplemental Insurance Plan (Medigap) and a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan or you can enroll in to a Medicare Advantage Plan (Medicare Part C) which includes complete coverage under one plan.

Medicare Open Enrollment
If you are a Medicare recipient, you have to the opportunity to change your current plan every year during Open Enrollment from October 15^th through December 7^th.

Medicare Savings Plans
There are currently three programs that can assist with paying for your Medicare Part B premiums and/or co-pays, deductibles and medication costs.  These programs are based on your monthly income and have no asset test.  They are Qualified Medicare Beneficiary Program (QMB), Specified Low Income Medicare Beneficiary Program (SLMB) and Additional Low Income Medicare Beneficiary Program (ALMB).  Please contact Senior Services to inquire about current financial guidelines and eligibility for each of these programs.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
Formerly know as Food Stamps, this program provides monthly assistance with the cost of food for low income individuals. There is no asset test for this program except for those individuals whose gross income is more than 185% of the Federal Poverty Level. Energy Assistance
Low income individuals can receive annual assistance with their primary heating and secondary utilities bills through Alliance for Community Empowerment and Operation Fuel.  Please contact Senior Services to inquire about current financial guidelines and eligibility.

Renter’s Rebate
Low income individuals who are renting and receiving Social Security, Social Security Disability and/or Supplemental Security Income can receive an annual rebate on payments made for rent and utilities including electric, gas, water and propane.  Please contact Senior Services to inquire about current financial guidelines and eligibility.

Farmer’s Market
For those low income individuals who are 60 years of age and older, you can receive a coupon booklet that can be used to purchase food items at any of the state wide Farmer’s Markets. Please contact Senior Services to inquire about current financial guidelines and eligibility.
