What You Need To Know If Getting Married In Stratford

  • Marriage licenses are by appointment only.  Please call 203-385-4020.
  • You may apply for your marriage license up to 65 days before your marriage.
  • Plan ahead and make your appointment several weeks in advance of your marriage.  We do not issue licenses on the same day of your ceremony.
  • You must be getting married in Stratford to obtain your license in Stratford.
  • Before making your appointment, have the following information available:
    a) Know the date of your marriage.
    b) Provide the name and contact information of who will officiate at your ceremony.
    c) Know the correct spelling of your parent's first and last name, including your mother's maiden name.
    d) Know the birthplace of your parents (State or Foreign Country).
  • The Town Hall building is not a wedding venue and our staff does not perform any marriages.  You may get married outdoors in front of Town Hall.
  • Both parties must appear in person to obtain a marriage license.
  • Please present a valid photo form of identification.
  • The marriage license fee is $50.00.  Payment options are cash, money order or check, made payable to the "Town of Stratford."
  • After your ceremony, you can obtain a certified copy of your marriage license.  You will be given a request form entitled, "Request for Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate", when you apply for a marriage license.  The fee for a certified copy is $20.00.
