E-Cigarettes and Vaping Resources

The use of e-cigarettes and vape pens, such as JUUL, have increased rapidly throughout the country, state, and here in Stratford. The Stratford Health Department is urging individuals to stop vaping and encouraging parents/guardians to speak with their children regarding the dangers of vaping.

Since June 2019, the Connecticut Department of Public Health has received 38 reports of people in the state who have a history of vaping and were hospitalized for severe breathing problems and lung damage. Nearly a third of the victims were under the age of 18. Vaping is especially popular among youth. In 2018, nearly 23% of Stratford teens reporting use over the past 30 days and 60% of Stratford teens reporting e-cigarettes are easy to access. E-cigarette and/or vaping products should never be used by youth and are not a safer alternative to traditional cigarettes.
