Wilcoxson Avenue Traffic Study

Dear Neighbor,

On Wednesday, July 15, 2009 I held a Community Meeting at Wilcoxson Elementary School to discuss quality of life issues in the Wilcoxson Community. The main purpose of the Meeting was to develop a comprehensive plan with community input to address the motor vehicle speeding in the Wilcoxson Avenue neighborhood. The turnout was substantial, and thanks to the participation of area residents we made significant progress towards our goal.

As I promised during our meeting on July 15, I held a follow up meeting on September 3 to communicate the progress we have made and provide results of the traffic engineering survey.

A copy of the traffic engineering survey is attached with this letter for your viewing.

As a result of the dialogue at the initial Community Meeting, the Town has begun to take a series of steps in addition to the traffic engineering survey to make the Wilcoxson Avenue neighborhood a safer place to live.
  • The Police Department has enhanced their enforcement activity in the area
  • The Department of Public Works will soon begin painting cross walks and pedestrian signs on the streets (weather permitting)
  • Radar speed limit signs have gone up as a temporary trial

Please know that I truly understand the frustration, fear and annoyance that vehicular traffic and speeding causes to Stratford residents in general and Wilcoxson Avenue residents in particular.

We are currently gathering comments from Wilcoxson Avenue area residents regarding what next steps we should take to reduce the motor vehicle speeding problem in the area. If you have any questions or recommendations, please e-mail me (jmiron@townofstratford.com), the Town Engineer (jcasey@townofstratford.com), the Director of Public Works (mmccarthy@townofstratford.com), and the Police Chief (jbuturla@townofstratford.com) with the subject line "Wilcoxson Community Meeting Follow Up."

I ask for your patience as we work together on this issue and that you do your part in working to obey the speed limit and spreading the word about the responsibility that each of us needs to take to build a stronger, safer neighborhood and Town.

Sincerely,
James R. Miron
Mayor
